Xavier Teach SouthEast
Surrey Downs Partnership is proud to work with Xavier Teach SouthEast as our accredited provider. We share a commitment to nurturing the next generation of outstanding primary and secondary school teachers; to join us is to join a vibrant, passionate community of experts in teacher education. Xavier Teach SouthEast’s high-quality, tailored ITT primary and secondary programmes span across the South East region with hubs in Surrey, Sussex, Northampton, Central and Greater London. In 2023, they were recognised by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every category for the second time since their inception, ten years ago.
With Xavier Teach SouthEast, we are delighted to be able to offer training in the South East Surrey area, with a wide range of subjects available at secondary level. All our courses ensure that trainees are expertly guided to meet the full requirements of the DfE and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), awarded at the end of the year-long, full-time programme.
Training with us, as a SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) provider means that you'll spend most of your time in school, beginning on day one of the school term. This school-based, immersive training is guided by school-based experts such as your mentor - a highly-skilled, experienced teacher who you’ll meet with weekly and who will support, develop and challenge your teaching. The weekly Professional Studies you will receive from expert practitioners, will cover topics such as lesson planning, assessment and how to create a positive classroom culture. Secondary trainees benefit from working closely with their subject tutor, a highly skilled and knowledgeable leader, for the duration of the year, to develop understanding of pedagogy in their subject specialism, whilst primary trainees have access to a range of subject specialists and leaders throughout the year, delivering leading edge training.
You'll be based in one “home” school for most of the year, with a contrasting “away” school placement for a minimum of six weeks (salaried/apprentice) or a whole term (fee-paying trainees), that, along with additional experience days, (such as to a SEND school), will broaden your training experience.
In collaboration with Xavier Teach SouthEast, Surrey Downs Partnership are committed to laying the foundation for a long and successful career in teaching. To support this, as well as the high-quality curriculum and pedagogy training, you will also receive award-winning (Carnegie Mental Health Award) pastoral coaching to ensure a smooth and successful training year.
